Cantonese Opera Youth Training Program
The Cantonese Opera Youth Training Program developed by Red Bean Cantonese Opera House provides classes in the fundamentals of acting, movement, singing, dancing, martial arts, costuming and cosmetics for the Cantonese Opera stage. The students will have the opportunity to learn this ancient Chinese art and culture, and experience live performance on stage.
The 2000-2010 classes have begun in October 2009, but new enrollment is still accepted for this program.
Classes are first three Sunday afternoons from 1 pm to 3 pm
Extended singing class now offer from 3:15 to 4 :15 pm.
Class size is limited to 20 students.

一年一度新春聯歡舉辦得非常成功。當日風和曰麗於下午一時開始、正個下午參加者約有過百多名會員和嘉賓來臨。約有數十位會員和嘉賓參加此次慶會的歌唱節目、場面熱鬧。很多謝一班熱心工作人員付出保貴的時間來幫助此次活動、使聯歡會工作得以順利進行。6時供應自助晚餐後，其次是卡拉OK，及排排舞助慶。約 有30人，直到晚上九點才盡興而歸。
February 27, 2010 Red Bean Opera Chinese New Year Celebration
Red Bean Opera celebrated the Lunar Year of the Tiger on February 27th. The celebration began at 1 pm with more than 100 members and guests in attendance. There were more than 10 members and guests who participated in singing with the Red Bean Opera musicians. The buffet dinner was served at 6 pm, and more than 30 people stayed until 9 pm for Karaoke singing and line dancing. Thanks to all the volunteers for helping to make this event a big success.

•2010年2月20日 聖萊安德羅 (San Leandro) 圖書館虎年新春聯歡：紅荳被邀請參與演出半小時的節目。由紅荳會員伍倩萍、李妙卿及青少年馬駿駒及馬佩璆演出兩個折子短劇[俏潘安之店遇]及[化蝶]、成績出色。超過 400 觀眾的熱烈掌聲和讚賞，除了非常欣賞各演員出色的表演之外、也對粵劇傳統化妝和五顏六色的服裝和頭件讚不絕口。圖書館主任進一步的邀請紅荳參與他們未來的活動演出。該表演隊加上成員和支持者約二十人在長城飯店參加了慶功宴活動。整個演出團隊及成員盡慶而歸。
February 20, 2010 (2 – 2:30 pm) Celebration of Chinese Lunar New Year. Red Bean Opera presented two short skit programs with full opera make-up and costumes. One was the Butterfly Lovers performed by Terilyn and Justin Ma. The second program was “俏潘安之店遇” performed by Anna Hom and Sandy Ng. Over 400 people in the audience applauded the beautifully performed skits and appreciated the full opera make-up and colorful costumes and head-pieces. The Director at San Leandro Library extended the invitation to Red Bean Opera for future events. The performance team and over 20 Red Bean Opera members and supporters attended the post-show celebration at the Great Wall Restaurant.

Red Bean Opera Haiti Fund-Raising on February 6, 2010
Celebration and community service came together on Saturday, February 6 as 39 members, supporters and guests in attendance at the Red Bean Cantonese Opera House, along with 6 others who participated through mail-in contributions, joined in birthday festivities for members, while additionally raising a total of $3,500 for Haitian earthquake relief.

「蘆花蕩」應邀参加慶祝中華人民共和國建國60周年大型演出備受曯目
九月二十七日(星期日) ，「红荳戲曲」應邀参加了由三藩市華商总會主辦的慶祝中華人民共和國建國60周年粤藝大型演出活動。由李育沛、容中洋等十名青少年演员在大明星戲院演出折子戲<<蘆花蕩>>而備受曯目，在整個演出中全場氣氛熱烈、掌聲此起彼落、歡呼聲喝彩聲不绝於耳。<<蘆花蕩>>是據名著<<三國演義>>章節改编而成的折子戏。以李育沛、容中洋領銜演出，當中通過粤劇藝術表現的身段、舞蹈、翎子功、起霸、甩髮等舞台技藝，充分表现了栩栩如生的古代人物的形象而受到好評。此類演出，在舞台上具有特殊的表现力。如戲中的「披戴铠甲」、「跨抬试甲」、「整装齊備」等身段表演由丁字步、弓箭步、蹲襠式、踢、抬、跨腿、提甲、雲手等動作组成。在場觀衆無不贊嘆地認為「蘆花蕩」代表着红荳戲曲青年一代極臻完美的藝術。也是當前湾區粤藝社團難得一見的好戲。由於演出認真落力，给人留下深刻印象。在場的湾區國慶筹委會主席對筆者說：「我雖然是門外漢，對粤劇看不懂，但我覺得他們(指「蘆花蕩」)演來十分认真落力，功底很好」。「蘆花蕩」演出之後，一大批戲迷爭相與演出人員合照留念，場面熱烈感人，瞬間成了演出活動中的另一景觀。

「三、六、九」系列壓軸好戲吸引全場觀衆
九月二十六日(星期六) 下午，「红荳戲曲」策劃演出的今年「重場戲」－－「三、六、九」演出系列中的慶中秋粤曲欣賞會隆重登場。盡管當日下午天氣酷熱，然而参演者和在場觀衆自此至终熱情更為高漲。在匯聚50多位精英及嘉賓的共同努力，经過四個多小時叠彩纷呈的表演，搏得在場近200位觀衆的熱烈掌聲和不绝的赞嘆聲。梁菁師傅和何少波(嘉賓) 以一曲對唱<<殺忠妻>>将整台演出推向高潮，至此，「红荳戲曲」之「三、六、九」系列中，隨著壓軸戲《慶中秋粤曲欣賞會》落下帷幕而劃下完美句號。
「三、六、九」活動是红荳戲曲精心策劃的演出活動之一。去年間因世界社會金融風暴突襲，影響了各方面的工作，為了保證「红荳」演出活動順利實施，今年樂社果断地中止了每年一次的大型演出活動，取而代之的便是「三、六、九」系列活動。其寓意乃「三三不盡、六六無窮、長長久久」，也即三月慶新春；六月迎初夏；九月慶中秋的「三大板块」合成顯示红荳藝術生命的無限延續。
這次演出，红荳除了表现本社不同年龄層次對粤藝那種執着的追求外，更印證在弘揚中華文化努力中也同样不受國界和年龄的局限。红荳青少年示範的絲绸舞；耆英班合唱的<<红荳禮贊>>；红荳班演出的<<十二欄桿十二釵>>；林采樺、劉詠儀领唱的<<李後主去國歸降>>；這幾個節目充分予以觀衆深刻印象，說明红荳是老、中、青組合而成的一個完美藝術社團。這個社團所演的群體節目在湾區觀衆來說是難得一見的。對唱方面有：方漢民、伍慈燕的<<花蕊夫人之劫後描容>>；何锦賢、許慧文的<<幾度悔情悭>>；馬煥根、伍彩霞的<<靈台夜訪>>；朱麗娴、李妙卿的<<嫦娥奔月>>；梁慧妮、葉玉清的<<再世红梅記之觀柳遝琴>>；譚念帖、梁翠鳳的<<棠棣之花姐弟情>>都各顯風格和韵味。這些節目觀賞性强，均予人視覺和聽覺上的享受。不失為當前湾區演藝界别具特色的演唱大SHOW。壓軸戲梁菁師傅與演唱嘉賓何少波對唱的<<殺忠妻>>，在場觀衆無不為粤劇名伶的紥實唱功、行腔自如、韵味無窮而折服。梁、何二人拍檔天衣無缝赢得了全場不绝的掌聲，將整台演唱推向高潮。 (撰稿：蘇能業 10/5/2009)

红荳戲曲成立十三周年”的聯歡會活動完滿結束

本年西曆八月十五日，红荳戲曲在本社舉行“红荳戲曲成立十三周年”的聯歡會活動已完滿結束。由梁菁社長執導的群體舞蹈 <<十二欄桿十二釵>>是作為此次盛會助慶的特別節目。這個節目不離“红荳戲曲”固有的群體演出特色，演員們充分的準備和精心的排練，她們載歌載舞，在舞台上扮相優美、歌唱令人賞心悅目、舞蹈身段與演技配合渾然一體。台下觀眾熱情投入，從不吝嗇掌聲與歡呼，令人萬分感動。所有到來參加演唱助慶的嘉賓表現出眾；義工們把現場安排得井然有序，事無大小，都忙前顧後用心打理；當日出席的來賓有一百五十餘人，另紅荳會員、親友、義工及樂師共五十餘人。晚間為紅荳會員慶祝生日的卡拉OK及排舞也是熱鬧非凡，現場一派喜氣，眾人興盡而歸。The Media Factory, an Oakland-based film and video company 的朋友們為演出義務錄影、拍照；各位嘉賓、會員及親友為紅荳慷慨解囊，資助樂社的日常開支、演出費用以及舉辦各類訓練班的經費等等、在此特別向他們表示衷心感謝。
Red Bean Opera 13th Anniversary Party on August 15, 2009.
A new constellation appeared in the Red Bean galaxy of stars on August 15th as the Adult Ladies Opera Movement and Dance class took center stage during the Opera House’s 13th Anniversary Celebration with a high-spirited and captivating rendition of the dance of "The Twelve Beauties" that was recorded by The Media Factory, an Oakland-based film and video company whose documentaries have aired on PBS and the Discovery Channel. The twelve beauties who appeared in the dance were joined throughout the day by a series of special guest performances additionally highlighting the festivities that began at 1:00 in the afternoon and were attended by than 150 members and guests. A dedicated team of staff volunteers guaranteed that the event ran smoothly, including the serving of birthday cake for members born in August and a buffet dinner, followed by karaoke and dancing for about 50 people that ran until 9:00 in the evening. As with every activity hosted by Red Bean Opera, the 13th Anniversary Celebration served as another reminder that the troupe’s many successes have been possible only because so many people continue to contribute to the Opera House their time, talents, hard work, skills, funding and, most importantly, their enthusiasm for keeping Cantonese Opera a vital and contemporary presence in the Northern California theater arts. Our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone.

2009 紅荳戲曲參與大明星籌款演出活動
There will be a special fund-raising event for the Great Star Theater remodeling project at the San Francisco Chinatown Great Star Theater on the evening of Friday, May 29, 2009, starting at 7:30 pm. Several San Francisco Bay Area opera associations have been invited to participate. Red Bean Opera will represent the Lioness Roar skit at this event. There will be a total of 4 skits and 4 duet/solo singing in the program.

NOTICE OF UPCOMING VIDEO DOCUMENTARYPRODUCTION AT RED BEAN OPERA
Another promising new development is underway for the Red Bean Cantonese Opera House. A production crew of film and video artists is moving forward with Red Bean Opera towards a shared goal of completing up to three video documentaries about Red Bean Opera and Cantonese Opera in general.
Red Bean Opera expects that the production crew will be present and making live video recordings at regular and special events presented at the Red Bean Cantonese Opera House, such as the weekly classes offered and the upcoming Summer Celebration and the August Anniversary party.
We are requesting that all Red Beans Opera’s members, staff, supporters and volunteers to sign either a "Permission and Release for Use of Name and Likeness of Adult" for themselves or a "Permission and Release for Use of Name and Likeness of Minor" on behalf of minors enrolled in Red Bean Opera student programs while the filming crew is scheduled for shooting starting from May 9, 2009.
When signed, the "Permission and Release" document authorizes use of an individual’s image and likeness in a variety of ways that may include films, videos, DVDs, photographs, program guides, fliers, brochures, professional portfolios, public service announcements, web sites, newspaper and magazine articles and books. The permissions and releases are essential for the completion, promotion and publicizing of the planned video documentaries.
To help Red Bean Opera with the planned video documentary projects, if you have not yet signed a "Permission and Release" on your own behalf or on behalf of a minor participating in student programs, please contact Judy Ma (during weekly singing session), Master Jing Liang (for senior program), Erick Lee (for youth program), Amy Shiu or Linda Lee (for group singing class), Pinky Lee (for adult ladies program) or Laura Ma (via email @ laura@redbeanopera.com) and a blank copy of the document will be made available to you for your signature. See the attached adult and minor release forms for your preview.
Please also contact Red Bean Opera via info@redbeanopera.com if you do not wish to have your image and likeness used in the documentaries and in related ways. Red Bean Opera will seek ways to assure that your image and likeness are not used contrary to your wishes.

Yang-Sing 5th Cantonese Opera Festival, November 10 to November 16, 2008.
This exciting event in Guangzhou, China, was attended by more than 120 people from the San Francisco Bay Area representing 15 Cantonese Opera musical clubs. Red Bean Cantonese Opera House was represented by more than 20 members plus their family and friends. Many members extended their trip by visiting their home towns and Hong Kong. The first Yang-Sing Cantonese Opera Festival was in 1990, and each festival has attracted more people from around the world. This year the representatives from the San Francisco Bay Area were very fortunate to be invited to Shunde and Daliang from November 17 through 19, hosted by Mr. Ziliu Li and his Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Foundation. Mr. Ziliu Li was a former major of Guangzhou and the CEO and President of many business ventures and companies. Many famous Cantonese Opera actors and actresses participated in the festive events and performed in the shows. The most famous Cantonese actress, Hung Seen-Ngliu, participated in the grand opening luncheon and evening show.
第五屆羊城國際粵劇節 2008年11月10--16日
舊金山灣區共有來自15家音樂社超過120名粵劇演員和票友參與了這場四年一度的盛會。二十餘名紅荳會員和親友赴穗共襄盛舉。許多紅荳會員也順道返鄉探親，或到香港訪親會友。
1990年廣州市舉辦首屆羊城國際粵劇節，受到全球粵劇社團歡迎，參會人數逐屆增加。今年舊金山灣區參加盛會的票友們有幸受惠廣州前任市長黎子流及其主持的振興粵劇基金會之邀，在粵劇節閉幕之後赴順德和大良兩地參訪。黎子流先生退休之後經營企業，頗有成就。
眾多粵劇名家在粵劇節上登台獻藝。粵劇屆最有名的花旦紅線女也親臨開幕當天的午宴和晚間的演出。
